A Typical Sailing Cruise
To help you get started I would like to suggest the
sightseeing sailing cruise which many of my guests
prefer. Depending on the time of day,
the weather, and your
specific requests, we will typically start the cruise at the EastPort Marina in East Peoria. Departing from the
marina, we will sail under the Murray Baker Bridge
(I-74) and along the Peoria downtown area, enjoying the
beautiful Peoria skyline. Once we near the southern
edge of the downtown area we will turn north and
toward the McClugage Bridge. Along the way we typically
sail very close to numerous sea gulls, herons,
egrets, and other
water birds along the shoreline. It's very
beautiful scenery, so be sure to bring your
As we sail north, you will be given the opportunity to be a part of the sailing crew by actually sailing the boat yourself! Depending on your wishes, I will teach you how to trim the sails and man the helm. It’s entirely up to you as to how much you would like to participate. I find most people really enjoy being part of the "crew" as well as learning a little bit about sailing along the way. Lastly, if you have selected the Sunset Cruise, I will time our arrival for the best picture-taking opportunities as the sun sets over the city skyline. It is truly a beautiful sight!
What Is It Like To Sail?
Sailing can be many things, depending on the time of day, the time of year, the weather, etc. Most people describe it as incredibly relaxing. The quiet sound of the wind in the sails, the water against the hull, the beauty of the city, the gorgeous sunset, and the nature around you including; seagulls, blue heron, egrets, white pelicans, ducks, geese, and, if we're lucky, the pair of bald eagles nesting in the area, all blend into a incredibly relaxing, enjoyable cruise!
On the other hand, sailing can also be exhilarating if the conditions are right and it's something you specifically request. I usually avoid going for the exhilarating sail unless the customer requests it, particularly if it's your first time in a sailboat. Be sure to ask about it when you call to book the cruise if you're interested.
A couple of things sailing with us is NOT - is noisy or crowded. This is YOUR cruise, you share it with only those you choose!
